Ministry Allows Basic Food Items to be Imported on Franco-Valuta Basis

Addis Ababa April 15/2021 (ENA) Ministry of Finance announced that basic food commodities could be imported on franco-valuta basis to narrow the supply-demand deficit and reduce rising inflation in the country.

In a statement issued today, Ministry of Finance stated that food commodities, including edible oil, sugar, rice, wheat and milk for children, can be imported on franco-valuta basis in the coming six months.

The macroeconomic committee of the ministry in its meeting yesterday decided that the National Bank of Ethiopia checks the origin of items worth over 250,000 USD.

The ministry's proclamation will be applied for levied tax and tariff on the commodities.
