Synod Resolves to Promote Relations between Ethiopia, Eritrea Orthodox Tewahdo Churches

Addis Ababa October 31/2018 Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church (EOTC) has passed a decision to promote relations with its Eritrean counterpart. Briefing journalists at the conclusion of the 10-day regular session of EOTC Synod today, Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church Patriarch His Holiness Abune Mathias said Eritrean and Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo church followers are immediate brothers and sisters. A joint committee which paves the way for cooperation in spiritual and social activities will be established, he added. Condemning the killing of citizens and loss of properties in parts of the country, Abune Mathias urged the government to prevent conflicts and contain displacements. The church will work with the government to resolve conflicts and ensure sustainable peace and stability in the country. The synod has also decided to donate 20 million birr to repair the Lalibela rock-hewn churches and 20 million birr for the construction of library and archive at Axum Tsion Church
