Ex-President Mulatu Awarded the Highest National Medal of Honor

Addis Ababa November 04/2018 Ethiopia has awarded the highest national Medal of Honor to the former President Mulatu Teshome at national palace yesterday. During the farewell ceremony attended by senior government officials, contending political parties and diplomats, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the event is organized to bestow recognition for the remarkable achievements of leaders. Saying that being former leader is inevitable, he noted the program is an exemplary for the current leaders to serve their country benevolently. Mulatu deserves the award for his outstanding achievement, the Premier said adding that the rational to leave his tenure is to “Unveil that the ongoing reform is on the right track.” He prioritized the interest of the public over his concern, the Prime Minister added. Speaking on the occasion, former president Mulatu Teshome said the farewell ceremony is what the country has been yearning for. “This revealed that we are on the right track of democratization,” he said adding that it liquidated the concern of the leader’s safety after leaving office. Promising to serve his country by prioritizing the nation’s interest, he called upon the people to stand together to ensure the continuity of the reform and tackle poverty. Ethiopia also bestowed the highest national honor of medal for the former president of Federal Supreme court, Dagne Melaku. Mentioning that his health problem is the rational for his resignation, Dagne promised to share his wealthy of experience to ensure justice in the country. The new elected female president Sahlework Zewde said on her part that former president Mulatu has served his country compassionately. She hoped that she will have similar farewell ceremony. It is to be recalled that the joint session of Houses of Peoples’ Representative and Federation accepted the resignations of Mulatu Teshome and elected a new female president. Mulatu has served his country for the last five years as a president.
