Regions, City Adminstrations Express Support for Ethiopian Government's Efforts to Restore Peace in Amhara

Addis Ababa, August 07/2023 (ENA) Regional State governments and City Administrations of Ethiopia have expressed their support for the federal government's efforts to restore peace and stability in the Amhara Region.
It is to be recalled that the Council of Ministers declared state of emergency in Amhara Region following the request the Amhara Regional State made to the federal government noting that the destabilization in the region is causing large scale of humanitarian, social and economic losses and that the region cannot control the situations.
Following this development, regional state governments and city administrations have issued statements reaffirming their support to the National Defense Force(ENDF) which is the symbol of national unity.
The Afar, Dire Dawa, and South West Ethiopia Regional States, as well as Addis Ababa, have all expressed that the destabilization and unrest in Amhara Region is fomented by illegal groups and looters and do not represent the Amhara people.
The ENDF is a strong pillar of Ethiopian sovereignty, Addis Ababa City Administration stated, and stressed that an attack on Ethiopia’s emblem of unity, ENDF, is an attack on all Ethiopians' and an attempt to dismantle the country.
The Sidama, Somali, and Benishangul Gumuz Regional States have also expressed their solidarity with the ENDF and support the law enforcement measures being taken against extremist groups.
The Sidama Regional State government said that it condemns in strongest terms any extremist group's ill-intentions to subvert the constitutional order which leads the country into chaos.
It reaffirmed its support to the federal government's effort to maintain peace and security as well as to strengthen national unity among Ethiopians.
The Somali Regional State government also denounced the futile effort of anti-peace extremist groups to overthrow a democratically elected government instead of resolving any issues through dialogue.
It affirmed that the State government stands along the vigilant ENDF at any cost and time as it is emblem of Ethiopian unity.
The Gambela Peoples' Regional Government also expressed its support for ENDF. The regional state denounced the social media activist who are fueling the unrest in the region.
The Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State government similarly called on Ethiopians to stand in unison with ENDF in reversing the situation in Amhara Regional State and continue the journey embarked towards prosperity. Any attack against the ENDF is an attack against sovereignty, the statement stated, and assured that the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State and people stands alongside the defense force.
The Oromia Regional State government on its part recalled that the ENDF in its national and international operations has repeatedly gained reputation for its selfless and heroic commitment to safeguard civilians as well as peace and security.
It warned that any attack on ENDF is an attack on national sovereignty. The Oromia Regional State government and people stands in solidarity with the Amhara regional state government and people as well as with Ethiopian nations and nationalities to fight against the extremist group, it noted.
Similarly, the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region State and Harari State have issued statements expressing their support for the government's efforts to restore peace in the Amhara Region.
