Ethiopian Nat'l  Defense Force Reaffirms Commitment to Promote Regional Peace, Stability 

Addis Ababa, October 25/2024 (ENA) The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) is devoted to keep and promote regional peace and stability, Ministry of Defense remarked.

ENDF International Relations and Military Cooperation Director-General Major General Teshome Gemechu briefed military attachés and diplomats residing in Addis Ababa about the history and key roles of Ethiopian National Defense Force in securing peace and stability of the nation and the region at large.

Major General Teshome said history testified that the Ethiopian National Defense Force has overcome many challenges in defending the national interest of the country, he added stating that  prudent experiences and lessons have made the national army resilient to ensure that Ethiopia remains very secure at all the time. 

He pointed out that beyond continuing to play a vital role in protecting Ethiopia, securing border and maintaining internal stability, ENDF is devoted to promote regional peace and committed to ensure the stability of Africa, indicating that Ethiopia is the largest contributor to the UN peacekeeping efforts by accomplishing peace keeping missions across Africa such as in Somalia and South Sudan.

 

“Our dedication to regional peace reflects the strong commitment of our defense force to the stability of Africa.”

Major General Teshome emphasized that Ethiopia, as always; recognizes the importance of international cooperation in addressing contemporary security challenges such as terrorism and cross border crimes.

Furthermore, he reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering and continued commitment for regional and international peace.

“We will continue to contribute to the peace keeping mission in the region and the globe as well. Our commitment to peace and stability is a reflection of our belief that a secured and stable region benefits all of us.”

Looking ahead, General Gemechu stated that the National Defense Force would continue to strengthen its capabilities to safeguard Ethiopia's national interests, promote continental peace, and contribute to regional stability.

The briefing provided insights into Ethiopia's journey toward maintaining a stable country, encompassing its national defense army's development, government transitions, generational changes, and institutional advancements.
