Uganda Expresses Keenness to Cooperate with Ethiopia to Address Shared Challenges

Addis Ababa November 28/2024 (ENA) State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest with his Ugandan counterpart, Hon. John Mulimba.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, this morning received a delegation led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Charge of Regional Cooperation of the Uganda, John Mulimba for bilateral talks.

The state ministers deliberated on bilateral and regional issues of shared interest, according to Ethiopia's Foreign Ministry.  

Citing the strong relationship between the two countries, Ambassador Mesganu, stressed the need for working closely to strengthen trade and investment link ties through the AfCFTA. 

He also underscored the importance of cooperation between Ethiopia and Uganda to jointly address transnational issues such as violent extremism, environmental degradation and climate change, human trafficking, among others. 

On regional matters, Mesganu highlighted the need for cooperation in utilizing transboundary resources and consolidating efforts in the maintenance of peace and security in the region and work towards a lasting political solution to the conflict in Sudan.

Hon. Mulimba, on his part, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to further deepening relations with Ethiopia. 

He said, Uganda closely follows developments in the Horn and is keen to cooperate with countries like Ethiopia to address shared challenges including the current situation in Sudan. 

Speaking of the utilisation of transboundary resources, the Ugandan State Minister underscored the importance of adopting a pan African approach towards a fair and equitable distribution. 

As part of deepening relations across various sectors, the two sides have agreed to hold the Fourth Joint Ministerial Commission early next year in Addis Ababa.
