Corridor Development Expanding across Seven Cities in Amhara Region of Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, February 9, 2025 (POA)— The corridor development, part of the nation’s initiative to transform urban infrastructures in Ethiopia, is currently expanding across seven cities in the Amhara region.

This initiative is being implemented using the cities’ own resources, public participation, federal support, and various grants.

The project, which began in Bahir Dar, Gondar, Dessie, Kombolcha, Debre Berhan, Debre Markos, and Woldia, includes the construction of 32.23 km of roads, 27.04 hectares of green spaces and parks, 3.7 hectares of public squares, 25 km of roadside lighting, and building facade works.

The corridor development is being carried out in different phases within a short timeframe while maintaining quality standards. Gondar, Kombolcha, and Bahir Dar have successfully completed the first phase and are now moving into the second phase.

The initiative includes wide sidewalks, bicycle paths, public plazas for rest and recreation, public toilets, and modern cafeterias in cities like Bahir Dar. Additionally, green spaces over 5 meters wide have been developed on both sides of the corridor. Efforts have also been made to open lake shores for public access.
