African Peace, Security Architecture Technical, Political Meeting Underway in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, February 11, 2025 (ENA) – The African Governance Architecture (AGA)-African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) undertaking a technical and political meeting today in Addis Ababa.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the platform to plan for 2025 flagship activities and implementation of outcomes of 2024.

It is also expected to enhance synergy and coordination among the platform and interact with partners.

Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security and AUC Rapporteur of the AGA-APSA and Permanent Representative of South Sudan Chairperson of The PRC Sub-Committee on Human Rights, Democracy and Governance, Ambassador Natalina Edward Mou are participating in the meeting.

The African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) is a set of institutions, laws, and processes that work to promote peace and security in Africa.

APSA is also designed around a framework of structures, objectives, principles, and values, along with decision-making processes that address the prevention, management, and resolution of crises and conflicts, as well as post-conflict reconstruction and development across the continent.

The Protocol of the Peace and Security Council (PSC), adopted in July 2002 in Durban and effective from December 2003, delineates the various elements of the APSA and their associated responsibilities. Following this, additional documents were established to enhance and streamline the implementation of the APSA.

At the core of the APSA is the PSC, which is supported in fulfilling its mandate by several key structures, including the Commission, the Panel of the Wise, the Continental Early Warning System (CEWS), the African Standby Force (ASF), and the Peace Fund.
