President of Angola Takes over Rotating Chairpersonship of African Union

Addis Ababa, February 15, 2025 (ENA)-- President of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, took over the rotating African Union (AU) chairmanship at the opening of the 38th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of the Heads of State and Government today.

Lourenco replaced the outgoing chairman, President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani.

During the occasion, President João Lourenço emphasized the importance of continued African unity and cooperation.

He underscored his commitment to addressing the challenges facing the continent, such as conflicts, economic development, and climate change, among other priorities
