African Foreign Ministers Express Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Ties Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, February 27, 2025 (ENA) --- Foreign Ministers from Botswana, Liberia, and Zambia have expressed their strong commitment to bolster their respective countries' bilateral relations with Ethiopia, focusing on expanding cooperation across key sectors.

Botswana's International Relations Minister, Phenyo Butale, stated that Ethiopia and Botswana are working to further strengthen their bilateral relationship in various areas.

He highlighted the excellent partnership and continuous engagement between the two countries, noting that his country is eager to elevate bilateral cooperation, especially in trade, investment, aviation, and tourism.

“We have excellent bilateral relations with Ethiopia. We continue to explore means and ways of expanding our areas of cooperation, and we believe strongly that our relations with Ethiopia are very healthy, and we will be looking forward to various platforms where we meet to expand these relations and broaden the scope of our interaction,” Butale elaborated.

Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, emphasized the long-standing friendship between the two countries, underscoring that the centuries-old relationship between Liberia and Ethiopia has been strengthened, particularly in transport and other sectors.


 

She added that Liberia seeks to cooperate with Ethiopia in areas such as health, education, agriculture, among other vital sectors. 

Reflecting on the diplomatic ties dating back to 1959, she said, “We have to work on strengthening the bilateral relationship with Ethiopia. Liberia, being the oldest Republic, we believe that Ethiopia and Africa have a lot to share, and we look forward to strengthening that.”

Zambian Foreign Minister, Mulambo Haimbe, stated that countries should strengthen their bilateral economic and political relations and collaborate in multilateral fora.

He acknowledged Ethiopia’s significant contribution to the continent by supporting independence struggles.

Minister Haimbe remarked, “We have a permanent mission here in Ethiopia. We've known each other for a long time, enjoying diplomatic relations from pre-independence times. Ethiopia is an icon on the African continent because you have never been colonized."

"We have just commissioned our chancery, which was reconstructed and is now a new chancellery, in keeping with the way we value the relationship between Zambia and Ethiopia, our long-standing friendship,” the minister added.

The African Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ethiopia, emphasizing cooperation in trade, health, education, and political engagement.

They highlighted the long-standing ties and shared values, particularly Ethiopia's role in Africa’s independence and growth.
