WB Acting VP for Eastern and Southern Africa Commends Ethiopia’s Broad-based Homegrown Reform

Addis Ababa, April 24, 2025 (ENA)— Ethiopia’s high-level delegation led by Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide held fruitful discussions with Acting VP for Eastern and Southern Africa at the World Bank, Amit Dar on the margins of the IMF and World Bank 2025 Spring Meetings.

The two sides exchanged views on Ethiopia’s historic macroeconomic reform program and Ethiopia’s priority areas for future collaboration, according to the Ministry of Finance.

During the occasion, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide provided an update on the success achieved with the implementation of Ethiopia’s pro-poor reforms amid challenging global conditions and uncertainty.


 

The Minister also highlighted Ethiopia’s growth strategy focused on macro-financial resilience, FDI, energy security, regional trade and integration, financial inclusion, and human capital to achieve prosperity for all.

On his part, Acting VP for Eastern and Southern Africa at the World Bank, Amit Dar commended Ethiopia for the bold policy actions taken to modernize the economy, tame inflation, promote private sector investment, and boost economic productivity through the broad-based homegrown reform program.


 

The VP reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to support Ethiopia’s journey towards inclusive growth and sustainable development aimed at benefiting all citizens of Ethiopia by supporting public investment, policy reform, private sector support, and knowledge.
