Peace Initiative Sees 10,600 Militant Responses in Amhara Region of Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, April 27, 2025 (ENA) – Over 10,600 militants in the Amhara region have positively responded to the government's call for peace, according to Amhara regional peace and security bureau.
Eshete Yousuf, head of the regional peace and security bureau, told ENA that comprehensive law enforcement operations are underway to establish lasting peace and stability.
He added that those who have chosen peace are being accepted and provided with reintegration training.
Eshete emphasized the intensification of actions against extremist elements involved in looting and violence, which has led to improved security and a return to normalcy in many areas.
Over 3,000 of the 10,600 militants who accepted the peace initiative this year have already completed reform training and reintegrated into their communities, he said, adding that preparations are underway for the remaining individuals, reaffirming the government's commitment to those who choose peace.
Operations against extremist groups attempting to destabilize the region will continue with greater force, he emphasized.
Reminding that these groups, currently being dismantled by the robust law enforcement are exploiting every opportunity to loot, he urged continued public support and cooperation, emphasizing its vital role in the success of the ongoing security operations.
